About

The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (Rainbow) is a philanthropic sorority for girls ages 11-20, and does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, orientation, disability, or religion. “Rainbow Gets Girls Ready for Life!” The leadership, organization and communication skills that girls learn in Rainbow are unparalleled, and not found in any other organization serving young women today.

Rainbow instills a deep sense of service in its members, and teaches girls the importance of service above self. Girls plan and attend hands-on service events in the community and raise funds for charities they are passionate about. In the past five years alone, chapters across Washington and Idaho have raised tens of thousands of dollars for charity.

Rainbow teaches girls how to lead through hands-on experience. The girls of each Assembly plan events, establish budgets, and run their own business meetings. Girls are elected by their peers to lead the organization at the local and state level, giving girls the unique opportunity to run a non-profit organization. Read more

“I am a Rainbow girl.  What that means is that I’m learning the skills to become the leader I want to be, give back to my community through service, and become more confident in myself.  It helps me to grow into who I am both in Rainbow and outside it with my other passions in my life.”

“We have three generations of Rainbow in our family. My grandparents were involved with their six daughters; my parents with their three, my sister with her two, and myself with my two. I myself was a Rainbow Girl, and it was that time in my life that taught me more than one could ever know. I was once bashful and shy; Rainbow taught me to be confident and to have a certain poise that allows me to be able to take on the world.”

“I am a part of a community service sorority called the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, which promotes mentorship among girls 11-20, leadership opportunities, as this organization is run by the girls, along with sisterhood.  Based on the positions I have had on a local and state level, I have learned to have better communication skills, to serve the community with greater purpose, and to become a more responsible person managing time with activities in and out of this organization.  I love this organization because it has given me skills I can use in the work force as well as compassion for others at school and with my family. ”

“Rainbow is a non-profit youth organization that gives girls opportunities to develop great life skills while they are young.  Managing group projects, public speaking, working with finances and performing community service are just some of the things that I have been a part of since joining.  I know when I applied to college, all of these experiences really helped me.  And even after college, Rainbow offers higher leadership opportunities that are not only great for building resumes, but also just for preparing me for life and giving the skills I have needed, to balance a busy schedule.”

“I am a state officer in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, which is a non-profit group that helps girls develop leadership, communication, and public speaking.  Being involved in Rainbow has given me confidence in myself and my abilities to talk in front of others, helping me with things like school presentations.  Rainbow also has many opportunities for service hours and community outreach to help improve our cities and towns, while teaching responsibility.”

“Rainbow is a service organization for girls ages 11-20 that teaches valuable life skills, such as public speaking, and helps develop leadership skills.  In addition to that, it helps prepare girls for their future by teaching us how to balance a budget and how to organize events. This organization is really great because not only are we learning these skills, we’re forming life-long friendships.  Rainbow I like my second family and personally I’m lucky to be in it.”

“When I was eleven years old I was going through a great deal of personal turmoil. I was getting over the loss of a father, I had horrible self-esteem and I was doing poorly in school. I was so afraid to let anyone get close to me out of fear of being judged or not being accepted. When I joined rainbow it opened my eyes to life and all of its possibilities. It created a world where I could be myself and grow into a strong and empowered woman. Because of rainbow I went from a fourth grader who could barely read, to a second year veterinary student in the top 15th percentile of my class. Rainbow gives you the courage to discover what you want out of life and then gives you the tools to accomplish it.”

“I’m part of a youth service organization called Rainbow Girls.  We do lots of community service and we help teach girls about public speaking.  I know it’s helped me feel more confident with school presentations.  Also, we have fun events that really help us bond and get to know each other.”
