How does the application process work??
Welcome to Rainbow!
We are excited that you have submitted a petition for membership in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. This organization will provide you with many opportunities for fun, service and leadership all within a safe and guided environment.
The process of joining Rainbow consists of several steps.
The first step you have already taken . . . that of submitting a signed petition. After a petition is received by an assembly (our name for a local group), it is then read in the assembly and visitation team is formed. The team usually consists of two Rainbow girls and an adult member of the assembly’s board. It is their task to visit the young lady making the petition and her parents or guardian. It is an opportunity for the petitioner and parents/guardians to ask any questions and to learn more about Rainbow.
The team then reports back to the assembly and the assembly votes whether or not to accept the petitioner. (It is only in rare cases that a petitioner is not accepted into an assembly and that is only after the reason for the rejection has been discussed by the adult board and the petitioner and her parents/guardians.)
Following the election to receive the degrees (our terms for “saying you can join!”), you will be contacted to set up a date to join (be petitioner into) the assembly. The entire process takes 4-6 weeks.
Please note that the initiation is a dignified event and you will not be humiliated or harassed during the ceremony.
For your initiation, we ask that you wear a dress (knee length or longer, no black dresses or strapless), slip and nylons. This is also what Rainbow girls wear to all of their meetings so it will be good to have a dress handy!
It is normal and okay to be nervous during your initiation. This will be something new to you and you will understand more and more of the initiation as you watch others join your new assembly. Try to stay as relaxed as possible and remember that the girls performing the ceremony are probably as nervous as you are!
Again, welcome to Rainbow. Please feel free to ask, if you have any questions or comments!
In Rainbow love,
The members of your new Rainbow Assembly
